Timing
The best time to plan a destination wedding in the Caribbean is usually January and February, However please keep in mind your guests list. You should consider important factors and details such as when Hurricane season, (July to Nov). Also to keep in mind who you are inviting? Whether or not your guests will be able to take time to travel during those months, and ease of travel, (if they have to change several flight to get there, and spend all day in airport. They may opt not to make it.
Guest List and Attendance
While it is impossible to determine exact guest attendance for your destination wedding 1 or 2 years in advance, there are equations to help determine and make an educated guess on the size of your guest list, this is important when booking your venues, caterer, and hotels, etc. While the general rule of thumb for a NON destination wedding is to assume that 10% of your guest list will not attend, That number is much lover for destination weddings, it would be safe to assume this number to be much lower, approx. 30 – 40% of your guest list.
On average destination wedding cost approx. 10-15% more than hometown wedding, however it could also cost less if you plan on a very small and intimate destination wedding rather than a larger home town wedding.
It is important to keep your guest list in mind when planning your wedding, consider how much your guest and wedding party will have to spend on transportation, hotel and lodging, as well as incidentals such as eating our at restaurants, and outings. Which is why so many couples when choosing a destination wedding keep their guest lists to their closest friends and family, and invite a small number of guest.

Wedding Save the Dates are not just a stylish way to announce your upcoming marriage, but it has also become an essential invitation piece. It is important to inform your guests as many this day and age move more frequently to different cities, have hectic lifestyles with children and work, and people travel now more than ever. So, a Save the Date wedding announcement has become an essential way to inform your guest of your wedding so they may add your date to their calendars. Here are a few tips when deciding your design and wording.
Timing: It is a good idea to send your Save the Date approximately 6 to 8 months before your wedding date. This time frame gives your guests enough time to make travel plans, arrange work and kids’ schedules, and give them enough time to plan. Your invitation should follow 6 to 8 weeks before your wedding.
(Make sure you have your reception and ceremony locations booked before sending out your Save the Dates. It could prove to be a terrible mistake if your venues are not available on your desired dates.)
Design
Design: Keep it simple, add your engagement photos for a personal touch, there is no need to put all the details, (your invitation will include this). Short and sweet. Although you may send a digital version of the save the date. A printed card is a more formal and traditional option, also many people like to pin to their refrigerators, clipboards, bulletin boards, etc. in addition, emails are often overlooked, added to spam, or not received.
There are many modern, elegant and simple Save the Date options, such as……
Postcard, this option is nice as it is a less expensive option, there is no need for an envelope and the postage rate is less to mail.
Magnet, Magnets come in many sizes, from a small square to a 5×7 card size, ideal for adding photos. The nice thing about magnets is that your guest can easily display them on their refrigerators, or wherever they can, and many times guests will keep them up as a keepsake.
Tradition Card, A flat or folded Save the Date card with or without a photo is a wonderful way to add a formal touch to your invitation pieces.
Wording
The etiquette for your save the date wording should be as follows.
1.) Requesting: The words “Save the Date” “Save our Date” or an even more formal wording “Please Save the Date for the Wedding Ceremony of”
2.) Bride and Grooms Names: You can use the brides and grooms first names as a design element; however somewhere on the Save the Date you should include the last names as well, there may be guests especially older guests, who may not know the bride or grooms last names and may be scratching their heads wondering. Bill who?
Also, as with the formal invitation, it is customary for the wording to have the bride’s name first followed by the groom’s name.
3.) Date: The wedding date should be clear to your guests as they will need to make their arrangements to attend.
4.) Location: It is only necessary to include the city and state, the details about the ceremony as well as the reception will be included in your wedding invitation.
Addressing
Although wedding invitation envelopes customarily are addressed formally, for example, Mr. Mrs. Dr. Rev, etc. Your save the dates do not need to be. It is up to you how you would like to address your envelopes. however, as a general rule of thumb, it is always a good idea to be respectful and write Mr. Mrs. Dr. Rev, etc. when appropriate. When inviting a guest and their guest you should include in the Save the Date envelope Mr. or Mrs. and Guest.
Everyone who is invited to your wedding and will be receiving a wedding invitation should also be sent a Save the Date. Including your wedding party and family members.
